Giving Tuesday is Upon Us!

Your support has been critical to our grassroots efforts to create democracy reform in Florida.  Even though we face an uphill battle for Ranked Choice Voting in our State, 2025 gave us some real milestones to be proud of:

  • We saw a window of opportunity to advocate for Open Primaries, once we learned that the Florida Democrats were considering allowing independents (NPAs) to have a say in their primary elections.
  • We have worked hard with our coalition partners at Florida League of Women Voters, Alianza for Progress, and Veterans for All Voters to get public statements of support for Open Primaries.
  • We've worked within the Florida Democratic Party to get formal endorsements from the Clay, St. John's, Collier, and Sumter County Democratic Executive Committees. Momentum is building for reform, but there's still much work to do
  • We've produced some impactful research that has been changing opinions, but that has led some of the opponents of Open Primaries to begin to do the same.
  • When RCV was banned in Florida, we agreed to merge our organizations with Digital Democracy Project to use innovative techniques to keep the RCV movement going. Once Marco Rubio’s Senate seat opened, we tested a first-of-its-kind Digital Convention—putting real choices in the hands of everyday people by combining mobile voting with Ranked Choice Voting.

Our Plans for 2026: Keep Fighting for Voters!

There are currently almost 3.5 million Floridians who have no right to vote in primary elections, and therefore can’t choose the candidates who compete in the general elections each November.  Because Florida is one of the last few closed primary States, independent (NPA) voters pay taxes to fund party elections in which they are not allowed to vote.

Winning support for open primaries will help make the case for Ranked Choice Voting as well, which is an argument already gaining traction at the National level. If more voters are participating in the primaries from a broader spectrum of society, RCV becomes a critical tool to ensure that the winning candidate represents a true majority of voters.

Your Support Matters!

Governor DeSantis proposed a new round of gerrymandering in Florida which threatens to make this situation even worse for independents, who will have their Congressional representation stripped in all but name. Open Primaries are a critical antidote to this attack on voting rights, but we need your help to support our advocacy. This Giving Tuesday, please support our work by clicking the link below.
